Vivi Zhu
Vivi Zhu is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose interest lies in discovering and telling microcosmic stories that reflect bigger political pictures. At present, she is engaged in the post-production of an Al Jazeera-commissioned documentary on Shanghai’s migrant opera community. Combining her professional experience in digital journalism and non-fiction filmmaking, she directed the TV documentary Shanghai’s Migrant Opera: The Final Curtain, which was aired on NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and officially selected in DocEdge Kolkata 2021. Vivi has covered stories across Cuba, China, and the UAE, and enjoys the challenge of marrying her journalistic ethics and values with creative forms of storytelling. She received her professional training in Film and Visual Arts at New York University Abu Dhabi.
